United Nations 191 different national flags proudly waving remind you that 18 acres of land within New York City's Manhattan Island are officially considered International Territory as the 39 story glasscurtained U.N. monolith presides calmly and futuristically over the East River. Brazilianborn architect Oscar Neimeyer and Swissborn Le Corbusier's building & plaza, finished in 1953, were a modern marvel of glass and concrete architecture that still stands as an example of efficient, clean, stunning design.
Tours are available usually between 9:30 am and 4:30pm, every 30 minutes. From the facility on 42nd st., walk east to 1st avenue. (about a 10 minute walk)
